Oh Nicholas Sparks....Why Do You Do This to Me?

Okay, I'm guilty.

I am a NOTORIOUSLY huge Nicholas Sparks fan.

It all started with The Notebook and I was hooked. I watched the movie first, and then bought the book....and then bought A Walk to Remember and then A Bend in the Road and it was all over from there!

I like to refer to myself as a realistic optimist. Weird right? But this applies to me especially when it comes to his books. While others might say "Oh nothing like [what happens in his books] ever happens in real life." Well, I believe it does! Maybe not directly in MY life but I'm sure it does. How's that for some realistic optimism?

I own ALL of his books and for them to continuously be made into movies is like Heaven on a stick. I was OBSESSED with The Notebook when it came out in theaters. I watched the trailers and clips A MILLION times, cut out newspaper clippings of previews and reviews, taped any interviews with Ryan Gosling and Rachel Mcadams (oh Rachel...how I love you so! But that's for another time) and bought both the movie cover for the book AND searched high and low for the original cover for the book (I found it and yes it sits proudly on my bookshelf). What can I say I was only 14! And now, TWO of your books are being adapted into films in the SAME year Nicholas. Not one but TWO! I think I feel my inner 14 year old coming out again.

We must stop doing this. You must stop writing such heartbreaking, endearing, picturesque novels and let me live! Oh, and stop letting film studios turn all of your novels into movies! I can't take it! With stars like Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams,Richard Gere, Channing Tatum and Mandy Moore...I can't resist!

  1. I love his books too! I must admit, I haven't read all of them, but that's about to change thanks to my New Year's resolution. I'm trying to read at least two books a month. So far, I'm doing well: I read five books in January!

Would you believe I've never seen "The Notebook" in its entirety? I own the book and I've read it numerous times; as for the movie, I've seen bits and pieces when it's on tv. I'll have to sit down and watch it soon!

And you're the first person I know who calls themself a realistic optimist. I call myself an optimistic realist! :) *high-fives*

  2. Any way you could let me know where you found the original cover? I've been looking for years for the original cover Nicholas Sparks mass market books to replace my wife's lost books.

    1. Awww how sweet! I've found most of the original covers at bookstores although they'll be paperback. They're usually hidden behind the movie covers! Also when new books come out, they bookstores usually have all the original covers then. Hope this helps!
