Ignorance vs. Stupidity: The Dark Skin vs. Light Skin Edition

The "Dark skin vs. Light skin" competition we have going on within my race has plagued us for centuries. You have people getting into arguments saying, "the blacker the berry the sweeter the juice" or "light skinned boys do it better." And it's not just the Black race either, I know many Indians, Latinos etc who face the same discrimination of Dark skin vs. Light skin. Heck, even White people are starting to say, "OMG you're so pale!"So are the people who continue to perpetuate this ongoing competition ignorant or just plain stupid? According to dictionary.com the word ignorance is defined as a "lack of knowledge, learning, information." So that simply means we need to be educated on a particular subject we're not familiar with right?

I don't know much about rugby. In fact I'm ignorant to anything dealing with rugby. Does that make me a horrible person? No. It means I just need to read up on the sport to gain knowledge on it.

Now stupidity has a completely different meaning.


Dictionary.com defines it as "lacking ordinary quickness and keenness of mind; dull, foolish, senseless." Ah yes, senseless is the word I'm looking for when I use it to define my next example of stupidity within the Dark skin vs. Light skin debate: Lil Wayne
Here's his life story for those who aren't familiar with him.
-MIDDLE SCHOOL drop out.

-Father at the ripe age of 15 (and soon becomes father to 3940284 children by 4380128 different women).

-He starts rapping and gets signed blah blah blah and makes the most amazing songs with the most wonderful lyrics such as:

"When you're great, it's not murder, it's assassinate / So assassinate me, bitch / Cause I'm doing the same shit Martin Luther King did."
His lyrics are truly life changing aren't they?

A line in his song "Right Above It" says “Beautiful Black woman I bet that bitch look better red.”

He's never been shy about his preference for lighter skinned women, but after a girl posted her encounter with him and the Young Money crew on her Facebook, it caused for huge uproar among dark skinned black women everywhere.
However true the encounter is, the stupidity of his comments about dark skinned women basically being the scum of the earth didn't surprise me nor anger me.

This man is a complete idiot who obviously hates his daughter. However he'll make an exception for his daughter Reginae because as he allegedly said to the girl, "my daughter is a dark skin millionaire that's the difference between her and you.”

Nice.

What are you teaching your daughter, who'll most likely go through discrimination from other Black men based on the "lighter is better" frame of mind, when you surround yourself around men (if you can call them that) who use the phrases, "oh you're pretty for a dark skinned girl"?

What are you saying about your ex wife who gave birth to your daughter? What are you saying about your own mother?

I'm not going to try to figure it out, because I love the skin I'm in and that's really all that matters to me.

Lil Wayne is the epitome of stupidity and I don't have the time or patience to understand about him. No, he's not ignorant, because if he was then maybe someone could actually teach him a thing or two about racism within a race and how it's a vicious never-ending cycle.

A cycle that could be broken if more people let go of their slave mentality, got an education and reached their true potential.

However, with unfortunate souls who reach the level of popularity like Lil Wayne and the mindless sheep who worship him and take his lyrics to heart, it seems like we'll stay putting each other down for years to come. But here's a solution:

Love yourself and love the skin you're in. Once you OWN that, nobody can take it from you or make you feel inferior about it, because when you exude confidence and love for yourself people will gravitate to that.

So do I care about Lil Wayne and his comments or anyone else who has a similar mind frame to him? No.

I actually feel sorry for them. I feel sorry that there's not a cure for stupidity because you can try to explain things to them all you want and throw books at them but until they WANT to incorporate a new way of thinking into their pea sized brains they won't understand nor will they care to. Stupid.

P.S. This is a rapper who DOESN'T DISCRIMINATE! :-) Why don't rappers like him get more recognition? Horrible management I suppose.
